Just Don’t F*¢% It Up

I was shooting The Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. When I shoot the parade, the last thing I’m interested in is the parade.

I love the participants at the staging process, and the bystanders are of interest. It’s mostly the people that get me and that I want to get.

There is, at a parade, a tacit understanding among all that: “It’s okay to shoot.” Not only that, but in this case, people are only too willing to be photographed.

The downside is that if you’re not quick, the moment, the relationships that were wonderful, will be replaced with grins and poses. That’s not all bad, but....

In the case of this photo, I found a horizontal bar I could sit on, I watched the parade, resting, shooting a little bit, and after a while ...
