The four stages in the life cycle of a butterfly—egg, larval, pupa, and adult—illustrate ways readers can use the information in this book. The egg stage comes first, and for a team, it centers on forming and solidifying the boundaries of the team’s work—activities that are key to the team’s survival and success. Next comes the larval caterpillar stage, during which the analogous teams take in data and instructions (akin to the caterpillar larva as it eats, taking in nourishment seemingly nonstop). During this stage, the team takes in information to prepare for beginning work on a project. The third stage is the pupa, when a caterpillar seeks out the optimal habitat for chrysalis, in preparation for its transforming into a butterfly ...
