An immediate advantage of Itanium over older processor technologies is the move from 32-bit-based systems (especially if you have IA-32 systems) to systems based on 64 bits. You can address a lot more memory on your machine, which allows you to manage much larger sets of data, and thus handle larger workloads more efficiently and mine data more effectively.
