4.5. Planning approved demand

The end result of this second screening and validation process is to move a project request down to the final stage of a project (NB not just new projects, but also work related to keeping the lights on). Note that though the project is approved (as in 'this is a good idea and we should be doing it') it will only exit the funnel for execution if funding is available.

It is at this stage that a project manager is usually assigned, and detailed planning, budgeting and resource allocation (where possible) takes place.

Not surprisingly, detailed planning can and will result in changes to the original information provided at project request level which led to the approval, mainly in the areas of technology, timings, costs and risks. These changes then become part of the forecasted planning for the project.
