DOCUMENTING YOUR NEEDS

Once you have decided what your needs are it is important to document them. Although these will be higher level than a technical specification they still need to be captured. This will help you see if they have changed as you go through the procurement and get more information. What you thought you wanted at the start may not be what you find you need once you have more information about what else is possible.

In particular, they can be very useful for the suppliers as well as yourself; they may have experience of satisfying similar needs in other organisations and you can benefit from their broader experience.
