At the conclusion of this chapter, you should be able to

• describe the design phase of the ISD process
• list at least three of the key roles the design phase plays in a typical ISD project.

The design element of the ISD process contains the majority of the work in most projects. By the same token, and sometimes confusing, many of the separate components of the instructional design process occur in the other four elements and are simply managed by the design function.
