Chapter 12. Reducing Email Spam

On any given day, I can open my email inbox and find at least one email scam or phishing message similar to those presented in the previous chapters. But that single scam message is insignificant compared to the number of spam messages in my inbox; like most Internet users, I receive dozens (if not hundreds) of unwanted spam emails every day.

If you use your email account at all, you know what spam is. Spam—otherwise known as unsolicited commercial email or junk email—describes any unrequested marketing message sent via email. Spam is typically sent in bulk, so that the one message you see in your inbox has hundreds of thousands of cousins cluttering other inboxes across the Internet.
