Overview of the SPF Algorithm
The SPF algorithm is one of two popular algorithms employed by routing protocols for best path determination. The other is the Bellman-Ford algorithm, which is more frequently used in distance-vector routing protocols. A basic difference between the Bellman-Ford algorithm and the SPF algorithm is that in the former, each node bases it path calculation on knowledge of the cost to all directly connected neighbors plus the advertised costs for routes heard from these neighbors.
