Even More Organizer Shareware

You’ve read about a lot of add-on software in this chapter, but you’ve only just begun. The world’s iPod-loving programmers are way ahead of you, as this list of handies suggests.

Tip

As usual, you can download all of the following programs from the “Missing CD” page of http://www.missingmanuals.com.

  • PocketMac iPod Edition. Here’s another option for those who have scheduled their lives in Entourage or Outlook. PocketMac iPod Edition converts and transfers all those contacts, appointments, tasks, notes, and even unread email from the desktop to the iPod. The shareware works with Windows 2000 or Mac OS X 10.2 (or later versions) and sells for $23.41.

  • Panorama iPod Organizer. Before the iPod was granted the power to wield contacts and calendars, programmers took matters into their own hands. The Panorama iPod Organizer, which costs $20 and works with Mac OS 9, perfected the art of using MP3 files to organize and store data. The program comes with a straightforward desktop application that can import text files from spreadsheet or address book programs. The data MP3 files get mixed in with the music MP3 files, and everything shows up in the Songs list.

  • ipoAddress. Another do-it-yourself option by a German developer for Mac OS 9 and X. The ipoAddress freeware turns addresses into MP3 files. You can decide what information you want to see on the iPod by way of iTunes before syncing up.
