PNNI SIGNALING OPERATIONS

PNNI signaling was introduced earlier with a brief description of its functions. The remainder of this chapter is devoted to this subject.[3] Figure 9-14 shows the topology and model for the PNNI signaling interfaces. A calling user is called the preceding side and the called user is called the succeeding side. PNNI uses the term forward direction to connote the calling user to called user and the term backward direction to connote the called user to the calling user. In addition, the network that originates the call from the user is called the preceding network, and the network that receives the call is called the succeeding network.
