EXAMPLES OF PNNI ROUTE AND ADDRESS SUMMARIZATION OPERATIONS

In this section, we see how PNNI can scale to large networks by reducing the amount of routing information that needs to be distributed in a PNNI routing domain. This example is from [ATMF96], section 3.5. You should be familiar with address prefixes when you read this material (see Appendix B).

Previous figures have been redrawn as shown in Figure 9-13. PG (A.2) is the focus of attention. The nodes A.2.1, A.2.2, and A.2.3 have end systems attached to them. The end systems are shown by their ATM address. For example, end system A.2.3.1 is an end system on node A.3.2. Addresses beginning with Y and W belong to other domains.
