BGP ROUTING MODEL

Figure 7-4 shows the BGP routing model, based on Cisco's operation [HALA97]. A BGP routing table is kept separate from the IP routing table. The BGP table is used to determine how the router passes routing information to the router's peers. The IP routing table is populated by: (a) routes within the autonomous system, and (b) routes advertised by other autonomous systems. The IP routing table is used for the final routing.
