UNICAST UPDATES AND DISABLING UPDATES

RIP is designed as a broadcast protocol. But it is possible to send RIP messages to nonbroadcast nodes. This capability can be useful when connecting to another router on a point-to-point link, say from a customer router to the ISP's router.

It is also possible to disable the use of RIP on specified interfaces. In so doing, the network manager prevents RIP messages from being generated on the specified interface(s).
