PROPAGATING THE UPDATES

Since RIP updates its neighbors, and these neighbors update their neighbors, and so on through the routing domain, it takes time for the updates to propagate through the domain. A router that sends its entire routing table does so every 30 seconds. Therefore, the nodes at the “end” of the broadcast will not find out about the change until all intervening nodes have timed-out, and sent the information to their next node.

Figure 5-3 shows an example of these events, in which network 1 is added to the routing domain.
