RIP is well-documented in many texts, and most texts have a chapter devoted to this protocol. The texts: (a) Routing in Communications Networks, by Martha Steenstrup (Prentice Hall, 1995), (b) Routing in Today's Internetworks, by Mark Dickie (Van Nostrand, 1994), (c) Advanced IP Routing in Cisco Networks, by Terry Slattery and Bill Burton, McGraw-Hill, 1999, all provide good descriptions of RIP.
