OPERATING WITH MULTIPLE ROUTING PROTOCOLS

The network manager must deal with the fact that the internets may operate with multiple routing protocols. Parts of the routing domain may use RIP, and other parts may use OSPF. The reasons that multiple protocols may be used is that legacy equipment may be forced to use RIP, the internetworking of one enterprise with another may require using each other's routing procedures, and so on. Whatever the reason, using multiple routing protocols is a common occurrence.
