Chapter 7. Bridging IP Between Dissimilar Media

This chapter explains why attempting to bridge IP between different media types can fail. In the process of explaining this problem, the concept of mapping layer three (IP) addresses to layer two (MAC) addresses is also presented. For IP, this mapping process is handled by the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), discussed in detail in this chapter.
