Summary

Router-based internetworking is a very complex subject. Many of the concepts are interrelated and difficult to understand on their own. This chapter has introduced some of the terms used, as well as some fundamental concepts that provide the foundation upon which the remainder of this book is built. The next chapter introduces the concept of convergence, which allows routers to cope with changes in network topologies.
