Next-Generation Routing

Communications protocols are always evolving; there seems to be no end to the variety of features and functions that can be developed. Many of the most significant emerging communications protocols are related to the IETF's "IP: The Next Generation" (IPng) project. IP Version 6 (IPv6) is designed to be a simple, forward-compatible upgrade to the existing version of IP. This upgrade is also intended to resolve all the weaknesses that IP Version 4 (IPv4) is currently manifesting. From the perspective of an end user, these weaknesses include the following:
