As I explain in Chapter 1, the Application Ecosystem is based on two distinct technologies: iCloud and web services.

Although web services are very cool — so cool, in fact, that they were the original focus of this book — in some ways iCloud is actually more important. That’s because if you believe in using the right device for the right job, then for many applications (RoadTrip, for example), you’ll want to be able to work on different devices depending on what you’re doing. For example, if you’re traveling, you’re probably going to be using your iPhone because it’s mobile and easy to carry around. For sitting at home on the couch and planning your trip, the iPad is the more likely choice — with its larger screen, you can see a lot more at the same time, which makes it easier for you to really get into what you’re doing.
