3. iCloud

Technically, iCloud is not a framework. At its broadest definition, iCloud is a service offering centralized storage and sync management across multiple devices and platforms. In June 2011 when Steve Jobs announced iOS 5 at WWDC in San Francisco, CA, the cornerstone of that announcement was iCloud. Allowing for some latitude on the subject of “frameworks,” iCloud is such an important component of iOS 5 I felt the need to include it in the frameworks covered in this book. The iCloud API is built into the DNA of iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion. You don’t need to import additional frameworks to work with iCloud because iOS 5 was designed to operate in the cloud.
