Concluding Thoughts: Energy Independence—A Strategic Imperative

We close by contemplating the notion of energy independence and its role in national security—for any country or government. To always be dependent on other countries for fuel is not only a weakness, but inherently places a sovereign at an economic disadvantage. This can be viewed on a number of levels, but not only is a sovereign at an economic disadvantage, but a national security disadvantage as well.
