The United Kingdom has a good share of recently developed wind farms. Kent, England is home to the one of the largest offshore wind farms, Thanet, with an installed capacity of 300 MWe. Thanet is approximately seven miles off the southeastern coast of England in a water depth of 20 to 25 meters. The Thanet wind farm was financed under a project finance structure and originally owned by a hedge fund. The project was sold to another investor group, and in 2008 Sweden-based Vattenfall, an energy company, became the project operator. In September 2010, Thanet became operational, making it the largest offshore wind farm.
