The Danish Ministry of Climate and Energy set in motion policies to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Wind energy began as an onshore form of renewable energy originally thought to supplement peak energy demands on the grid. Over the course of two decades, Denmark has made a concerted effort to build the engineering, technology, and infrastructure to construct wind-based power generation.

The Ministry of the Climate and Energy authorized construction of two wind farms, Horns Rev and Rodsand, with installed capacities of 160 MWe and 158 MWe, respectively.
