Next to the United States, the Philippines is the second largest geothermal producer of electricity in the world. According to the Philippines Department of Energy, the Philippines has approximately 1,977 MWe installed capacity driven by geothermal fields that is helping to reduce its dependence on foreign oil and gas. Approximately 610 MWe are managed by government-owned Philippine National Oil Corporation-Energy Development Corporation (PNOC-EDC). The remaining installed capacity is managed by private corporations.
