Natural Gas Storage

Natural gas is often stored in underground salt domes and aquifers. These salt domes are depleted reservoirs that previously held natural gas, or in some cases crude deposits, and today hold natural gas. These underground storage caverns are scattered throughout the United States primarily in the Midwest and the Texas-Oklahoma-Arkansas corridor.

The important thing regarding storage is twofold: During the summer months, producers are inputting natural gas reserves into storage and ramping up for the upcoming winter months.
