Concluding Thoughts

Quarterly earnings are but one piece of the total investment picture. The complexity of this industry warrants a much longer-term view than quarter-to-quarter earnings. While we all want quarterly earnings increases, perspective becomes very important. There isn't anything short term about the energy industry. There isn't any activity that will unfold during the course of a quarter.

We might be better served with a longer-term investment horizon. Energy infrastructure or alternative energy projects can take years to obtain environmental permits. Oil and gas companies can take up to four years before they produce first oil or gas in a newly discovered field. I believe there are worthwhile energy investments all over the globe. ...
