I have often made substantial money investing in a stock even though I knew nothing about it other than its name and trading symbol. I simply let the chart be my guide and acted as it instructed. My thinking was that the chart indicates that someone knows something about this stock that is quite positive, so why don't I just go along for the ride?

Traditional Wall Street generally is appalled by such an approach. They consider it dangerous, lazy, and lacking in intellectual rigor.
