Chapter 8

Hydromagnetics—Fluid Behavior of Plasmas

Abstract

This chapter addresses the behavior and analysis of plasma as a fluid medium. Transport processes are considered, along with the unique possibility of different temperature species. Convection and diffusion of magnetic fields in conducting media are treated. Magnetic pressure- and fluid pressure-related force balance is introduced. Magnetohydrodynamics stability is discussed. Wave propagation and unique plasma wave behaviors are introduced. Shock waves in plasmas are discussed.
