6.1 Hydrology

Hydrology is the scientific study of the movement, quality, and distribution of water on the Earth. It includes both surface water (surface hydrology) and ground water (hydrogeology), as well as a special classification for marine water (marine hydrology). Individuals working in the field can span the disciplines of geology, physical geography, earth science, environmental science, civil engineering, and environmental engineering. Specialties of the discipline include ecohydrology, the study of the interaction between organisms and the hydrologic cycle, and limnology, the study of lakes.
