Acceptance test A test to check that the installed or repaired system meets the requirements agreed with the customer.
Access control mechanism The method used to acceptor deny access of a device to a LAN.
Access protocol The procedures that enable access to a network such as token passing and CSMA/CD (carrier sense multiple access with collision detection).
Active circuit The information channel that is in use. It refers to channels carrying data/voice/video or whatever.
Adapter card A circuit card installed to provide the physical connection with a network. Also called a network interface card (NIC).
Address An identification assigned to a network device used to identify the source and destination of a message.
