Shadows

8.1 The Shadow Phenomenon

In Chapter 6 we learned that many types of interactions between light and matter can occur before photons leaving from emitters eventually reach our eye. We have seen that, because of the complexity of the problem, local illumination models are used in interactive applications. Then, we have seen some techniques for adding some more global lighting effects to the local model in order to improve the realism. For example, in Section 7.7.4 we used cube mapping to add reflections to the car, that is, to add one bounce of light.
