Foreword

A couple of years ago I pondered what some considered to be an absurd idea: Why couldn’t the backbone that serves up millions of page views a second carry voice too? And why couldn’t we literally unplug the phone company and plug our phone into our Internet connection?

The idea didn’t turn out to be as absurd as some thought, and based upon this concept, and a technology called voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Vonage was born in 2001. Using an existing high-speed Internet connection, Vonage technology enables anyone to make and receive phone calls, worldwide, with a touch-tone telephone—a feature-rich and cost effective alternative to traditional telephony services.
