This chapter takes a look at VoIP chat services, which provide the same basic function as Internet telephony but are different in the way they operate.

In Chapter 1, “Traditional Phone Systems,” we spent some time discussing the public switched telephone network (PSTN) as the foundation or starting parting point of VoIP.
