25.1 INTRODUCTION

The automotive industry is expanding beyond the traditional concerns of cars and transportation into personalized ownership experiences that would enhance the connected lifestyle of its customers. Helping them manage their health and well‐being is fast becoming an important product development priority. Leveraging the intersection between automotive connectivity, connected healthcare, and proliferations of mobile apps, Health and Wellness (H&W) solutions are emerging as the newest set of automotive products and services in two ways: adding value to automotive connectivity and evolving notion of automotive safety.

Today we live in a connected world where the connected consumer expects or rather demands car manufacturers to make connected cars and provide cloud‐connected services. As a result, cars are becoming one of the smartest consumer “electronics devices.” In the automotive industry, there is an emerging shift of product development mindset from building cars to building transportation as a service where the unified digital ownership and driving experience is becoming a key differentiator.
