Backups

No matter what measures you take to reduce the chances of server failure, there will probably come a time when you will need to recover some amount of data for your Web server. In the case of a complete server failure, you must have data backups readily available.

Following are some backup strategies to consider:

  • Create a backup plan that will, at a minimum, back up all the data on your Web server.

  • Choose backup software that can run scheduled backups and provide simple restore procedures.

  • Implement a backup schedule that will forfeit, at most, 24 hours' worth of data.

  • Protect your backup media by storing it in a location other than that of your Web server.
