George Bell becomes CEO

The 'adult supervision' that was brought into Excite came in the form of George Bell. What was it about him that attracted Kraus and his colleagues?

'Well we looked for a CEO for nine months, and we realized that the most important thing we needed was culture fit. You can hire someone with a great CV, but if they don't fit within the team and they don't fit within the culture… companies are very much like people, they have antibodies.'

And what is the Excite culture exactly?

'I would say it's very energetic, open, smart, wants to win more than anything else, wants to think big, very action-orientated. Those would be the things that really define the culture.'
