What next for Jim Barksdale?

What the man with the Midas touch was going to do following the sale of Netscape was a matter of intense speculation. He could have had his choice of jobs among the raft of big computer companies anxious to embrace the internet. Or take retirement on his wealth of funds.

However, early in 1999 he established a venture capital outfit, Barksdale Group, and he divides his time between his home in Aspen, Colorado, and the Silicon Valley headquarters of the new venture. Two former Netscape executives, Quincy Smith and Peter Currie, are partners in the business which includes in its investment portfolio HomeGrocer.com, an on-line grocery store, Escalate, Listen.com, MyCFO.com, Respond.com and Tellme Networks.
