For Your Information (FYI) RFCs

Another variant on the informational theme is the “For Your Information” series of RFCs. FYIs are mostly informational in nature, although their intended target reader is the end user who is trying to make heads or tails about the Internet in general. Although these documents are also published as RFCs, they are most-often referred to as FYIs. An examples of the FYI series includes RFC 1178—also published as FYI 5—which describes why computers have hostnames.
