Bloomsbury Capital: June 2007a

Pauline Cornioley felt a tinge of regret as she realized she would have to miss tonight’s performance at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. She wondered whether she would get any sleep at all that night as she reluctantly put aside her orchestra stall tickets, a luxury she was finally able to afford after just graduating from business school and joining Bloomsbury Capital, a leading European private equity firm. Cornioley was scheduled to deliver her first presentation at Bloomsbury’s partnership meeting on Monday morning and only had the weekend left to prepare. After only two months with the firm, she knew the significance of this opportunity.

Cornioley was one of the fortunate few in her graduating class who had managed to land a job in the highly sought after private equity industry. She allowed her mind to drift back to the by chance encounter with Victor Lewis, Managing Director of Bloomsbury Capital, while he was a guest speaker at her private equity class lecture. Cornioley”s second year MBA project was the perfect excuse to contact Victor Lewis, which led to further discussions and, miraculously, a job opportunity. Cornioley, however, realized her grace period may be over and that Victor Lewis and other senior partners of the firm would not hesitate to ask her difficult questions on Monday. She turned back to her workstation and the stack of documents spread out on her desk.
