Chapter 8

Serial Communications

The PIC USART port provides low-speed RS-232 serial communication, which can be converted into RS-422 and RS-485 industrial standards. The SPI port supports synchronous data links with hardware peripheral selection, while I2C uses software addressing. CAN and LIN are designed principally for automotive networks, while Ethernet and Wi-Fi standards are associated with internet communication. A variety of short-range wireless links are available for local and domestic control and communication systems.
