Abstract: The chapter aims to demonstrate how an intergroup perspective informs our understanding of intercultural communication. It provides a general overview of the social identity and intergroup research tradition and summarizes research and theoretical approaches to understand constructive and potentially negative aspects of intergroup communication (e.g., communication accommodation theory).
