AAL (ATM Adaptation Layer)

A layer on top of ATM to provide an interface more convenient than 48-byte cells. AAL1 is constant bit rate, AAL2 is variable bit rate, AAL5 is large datagram packets. AAL3/4 was an unsuccessful attempt to provide what eventually was redesigned as AAL5.

AARP (AppleTalk Address Resolution Protocol)

Just like ARP but for AppleTalk.

aggregatable

Addresses that can be summarized easily because all the numerically contiguous addresses are located next to each other in the topology.

anycast

Transmit to the nearest of a set of nodes.

ARP (Address Resolution Protocol)

A protocol for mapping 32-bit IP addresses to 48-bit data link layer addresses, specified in RFC 826.
