Security is important for smart objects because they are often deployed in important infrastructures such as the electrical power grid.

Smart object security is multifaceted, and in this chapter we focus on the communication aspects of smart object security. We discuss the basics of smart object security and encryption, and review the security mechanisms in the IP architecture. For an in-depth look, read Stajano’s book on the subject [225].
