ENGAGING LECTURE TIP 53The Graceful Goodbye

Just as you greeted students on the way into the interactive lecture session, we suggest that you bid them a Graceful Goodbye at the end. Indeed, you should give your goodbye as much attention as your greeting. The Graceful Goodbye involves acknowledging that students chose to come to class, chose to listen, and chose to stay to the end. Be courteous in return. It demonstrates respect for students and it also helps put a punctuation mark at the end of a class session, making a clear and distinct ending. Rather than being confused, students will know what to do at the end of a class session, which will improve their overall experience.
