Abstract
This work presents the research advances on reconfigurable robots for manufacturing applications. The differences between the fixed-anatomy and variable-anatomy robots and the promises for higher flexibility are presented. The main aspects of the reconfigurable robots are classified and discussed. The classification of the platforms and modules are presented and their characteristics are commented.
