Intelligent networks (INs) have evolved from a long and rich heritage of communication networks. The sophistication in the design of INs stems from the seminal and patented works of Bell, Marconi, Tesla, Zworykin, Schawlow, Townes, and numerous other communication scientists. Being at the top of an evolutionary ladder, the current INs have benefitted greatly from the breakthrough invention of Shockley, Bardeen, Brattain, as the three-electrode element (Transistor).
