Monitoring Corrosion Using Vibrational Spectroscopic Techniques

Shengxi Li    Hawaii Corrosion Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

Abstract

Raman spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy are two useful spectroscopic techniques for corrosion studies especially because they can provide real-time information on various corrosion systems. This chapter discusses the applications of these two techniques in the studies of aqueous corrosion, atmospheric corrosion, corrosion inhibitors, and corrosion protection coatings. Available techniques and instrumentation for each application will be provided as a guideline for related investigations. Various examples ...
