CHAPTER 7 Providing Home Folders and File Services to Macs

When a Mac user joins your network, you want him to feel right at home—and that means giving him the type of home folder he needs. Mac OS X offers three options: to give the user a home folder on the Mac, just as if he weren’t using the network; to give the user a network home folder that acts just like a local home folder; and to give the user a mobile account that’s stored on his Mac but that synchronizes automatically with a network folder. You can also take the mobile account a stage further by letting the user store it as an external account on a portable drive that he can carry anywhere or swallow (or worse) to confound Homeland Security.
