Building your first app (Must know)

In the previous recipe, we learned the fundamentals of Windows Store style apps. This recipe will teach you how to write your first HelloWorld Windows Store style app.

Please refer to the HelloWorld project for the full working code of this recipe.

How to do it...

To start creating a HelloWorld app, first create a C++ Windows Store app. Here we use the most basic project template, Blank App (XAML). To create a Windows Store app project, follow these steps:

Launch Visual Studio 2012 for Windows 8. The Visual Studio 2012 for Windows 8 start screen appears. If it has been launched for the first time, set the development settings for the Visual C++ environment when prompted.
